Summer 2011 Update

Well, we've been in Kentucky since February, and here it is June already. I've taken 3 classes, and did well in them, and I've taught a class on-line for Colorado Christian University. I'll be teaching another course this Fall, on the Book of Acts and the Pauline Epistles.

Renee just turned 43, and started a new job on her birthday; it's literally in a cave, under the ground. It's based in the same facility where High Bridge Springs runs a bottled water plant, but Renee's actually working for a storage company. She's working from 8 to 5 every day, but it's going to be considered Part-Time unless they opt to move her up to full-time status. We really need jobs with benefits, since our Insurance ran out at the end of May. I'm going to sign up for the student insurance policy, but we're not sure yet what to do for Renee and the kids.

Our daughter has been promoted to the 7th grade, and our son is moving up to the 4th grade.

We've been attending Quest Community Church in Lexington since we got settled into our little apartment. It's a modern, seeker-sensitive church, and it's been a major change for me. After all, I've preached over 500 times in the last 14 years, so my entire perspective is new.

A couple of weeks ago I performed a wedding in Great Falls, Montana, and had a nice experience there. Montana is nothing like anyplace else I've ever been, and the people there are really great.

The kids just got out of school, but we don't have anything major planned because of money concerns. We wanted to go to Metropolis, Illinois, to the Superman Festival, but it's cost prohibitive now. ICHTHUS is next weekend, and Renee and I will be volunteering so we can get the kids in free. I'm doing altar ministry, and she's doing sales, so we're looking forward to our time there.

School doesn't start up again for the kids until August, and I'm getting my first real summer break since before I became a youth minister in the late 1980's, that is -unless I can find a job - but who would watch the kids with Renee working?

Next week I'm going to be interviewing for a teaching position at a private school, and if I'm offered the job, I'm going to have to do some major adjustments to my Fall schedule at Asbury. I'd be teaching at the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and I'm slated to take at least two Tuesday classes at the seminary. I wonder if I could be a student, teach at a school, and teach on-line all at the same time without blowing a mental gasket? Time will tell...

More later, when there's news worth reporting...

About Me

In my heart, I am a writer. I express myself best through words. Sometimes, though, words are not enough - so I use pictures. This blog is but a mere jot in the spectrum that is my life. If I knew I had a readership, I'd probably write more intimately here so, in the meantime, I'll just write for myself. Hope you enjoy the words and the pictures.
