Over the years, I have enjoyed most of the superhero movies I have seen. Note that I said "most." There have been a few turkeys, and I freely admit that. Swamp Thing and its sequel come to mind. Condorman, Mystery Men, and - *choke* - The Return of Captain Invincible...
Well, I have finally seen a movie that makes all of them look like masterpieces. I had no idea that a day would come when I finally saw a movie that made me want to dive into the $5.00 DVD bin at Wal-Mart and fish around for a copy of Mystery Men to cleanse my mental palette.
Simply put, ZOOM is the worst superhero movie ever made. It's stupid, it makes no sense, it's a blatent rip-off of last summer's Sky High (which I loved), and I hated it. Now, I generally like Tim Allen and Courtney Cox, but I wish they hadn't made this lame piece of fluff. And don't get me started on how far Chevy Chase has fallen, and how Rip Torn has ripped off his own role from the MEN IN BLACK movies...
Granted, I went in wishing I was seeing My Super Ex-Girlfriend (which wasn't playing), and I wasn't impressed by the previews I'd seen, but I normally just let a movie take me where it wants to, and that usually allows me to suspend my disbelief. I did this with Godzilla and a few other movies that I know others have despised, but I simply could not do this with ZOOM. It was awful from the first frame to the last, and I have not wanted my money back so badly since I saw BATMAN AND ROBIN all those years ago. I don't even want to elaborate on why it's so bad. Just trust me. In the words of "The Critic," It Stinks!
